Addictive, compulsive, or obsessive behaviour is usually triggered, initially, and subsequently by specific incidents or environments. It is our brain’s way of trying to protect us by moving toward a behaviour that will bring us comfort, peace and security.
Once we uncover the triggers, it is easier to control because we recognise the reasons why we feel insecure or unsafe.
We also begin to realise how destructive and devastating these behaviours are for us, making it logical for us to find other ways of coping.
We can develop coping mechanisms that will be beneficial to us instead.
I have overcome bulimia, an addictive behavioural pattern that many suffer from for a lifetime and can even die from, yet I overcame it completely and live a normal, healthy life.
If I can do it, so can you.
